Do I need my vets approval to feed Little Hunter to my dog?

Consulting a vet isn't necessary, but we encourage you to talk to your vet about what you're feeding your little hunter - they often ask anyway!

What's the shelf life?

Little Hunter food is freeze-dried, without added preservatives, and shelf stable for up to 2 years!

How is that possible? By freeze-drying our food raw, we remove all the moisture from it (the main source of spoiling). That significantly extends the life of our food without the need of artificial preservatives. The best part, because it's still raw and in it's original form - it retains 97% of it's nutrients!

To help protect it further, store Little Hunter in a cool, dry place. Once opened, a bag should be used within 60 days.

How do I prepare the food?

Unlike frozen raw food packets, Little Hunter freeze-dried food comes ready to serve. Simply measure a Little Hunter serving, pour into your pup's bowl, and watch them chow down!

Have a dog that prefers moist over crunchy? No problem – add 1 part water to 2 parts LH, and let it sit for 10 minutes before enjoying.

Little Hunter can be stored in a cool, dry place (no refrigeration required!) and unopened bags last for several years – just be sure to check the expiration date! Opened bags should be consumed within 60 days."

Can't I just prepare raw food at home?

We know that all those who want to prepare fresh, raw dog food at home have nothing but the best intentions. You're all about doing what it takes to keep your pup healthy – so are we!

That's why it's important to note that research has found that about
95% of both raw and cooked fresh dog food recipes online are lacking in crucial nutrients.

If you do find a recipe you'd like to try, preparing fresh raw food at home should be done with great care. When done improperly, it can expose both the pet and human family to significant bacterial and pathogen risks.

To enjoy the benefits of fresh raw without the hassle or safety risk, turn to Little Hunter. Our recipes are formulated by holistic veterinarians who are experts in canine nutrition. They're also balanced, wholesome, and analyzed to ensure they meet nutritional AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages.

Additionally, our food goes through high-pressure processing, which naturally destroys harmful bacteria without affecting its nutritional value – something very difficult to do if you're making fresh raw food at home!

What if my dog doesn't like it?

Finding the best dog food for your little hunter takes research, patience, and money. Here at Little Hunter, we don't believe pup parents should be punished for trying something new, all in the quest to provide their pooch with nothing but the best.

That's why we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so you can try raw risk-free! Pup doesn't love us? Get a full refund, with no returns necessary. Feel free to donate any unused product to your local dog shelter or a furry four-legged friend who wants to give freeze-dried raw a try.

My dog has an upset stomach after eating Little Hunter

We want to start by saying the entire Little Hunter pack hopes your dog is feeling better – we take pup health very seriously.

We've found that pups who transition too quickly to our food can have upset stomachs. We recommend a gradual transition over 10-14 days. That timeframe usually allows the digestive system to adapt to the new food rather than overwhelm it.

A sudden diet change can shock the gastrointestinal tract. While not typically a cause for serious concern, can definitely result in diarrhea, vomiting, and general discomfort, which we certainly want to avoid!

We're here to do all we can to help soothe your pup's tummy as soon as possible, so don't hesitate to reach out to us with any specific conerns or questions.

Little Hunter was born out of the desire to provide only the best to our beloved pups. That's why, in addition to balanced, wholesome raw recipes that provide optimal nutrition, we also offer a satisfaction guarantee!

Why include fruits & veggies?

We add fruits and vegetables to balance the nutrition of our recipes and ensure your pup gets the vitamins, antioxidants, fiber they need, and more!

Antioxidants from fruit and veggies are powerful at fighting abnormal cell growth and the free radicals your dog's body naturally produces. They counteract the damage these free radicals do to healthy cells. Antioxidants are also known for fighting against cancers and boosting your dog's immunity, making them less likely to fall ill. What does all that mean? That by simply adding fresh fruits and veggies to our recipes, we're helping pups stay healthy and naturally combat disease.

But the benefits don't end there! Fruits and vegetables contain natural fiber, helping keep your dog regular while fighting diseases in the digestive system.

Where is Little Hunter food made?

Our food is proudly sourced and made in Wisconsin. Each recipe is made in small batches and ships shortly after production. As its shelf-stable, our food will easily keep for a few months and still taste fresh!

Why grain-free?

To keep things simple, we've focused our meals on three key nutrition pillars:

  1. Complete and balanced per AAFCO guidelines.
  2. Made with meat, organ & finely-ground bone diet – a dog's preferred and biologically-appropriate raw diet.
  3. A mixture of organic fruits and vegetables for fiber & anti-oxidant disease-fighting benefits to balance out and meet nutritional needs.

Using the above guiding principles, we believe our team has created diets that keep pups happy, healthy, and thriving. Browse our recipes to get started!

Do I need to add water?

Nope, you don't need to add water to our raw food! It's delicious as is, but if your pup prefers wet food, we'd recommend adding about 1 part warm water to 2 parts Little Hunter. Let it sit for 10 minutes, and then bone appétit!

Is Little Hunter salt-free?

All of our treats and meals are salt-free with the exception of our Salmon recipe that contains a small amount of sea salt!

What about Prop 65 safety?

Our food does not contain any of the items flagged under Prop 65. We use only lab-tested, safe ingredients approved by AAFCO – the US government agency responsible for approving pet food ingredients and the gold standard for pet food ingredient safety.

Are synthetic vitamins used?

No! We do not add any synthetic vitamins or mineral mixes (or anything else artificial) to our recipes - ever!

Here at Little Hunter, we take great care with our diet formulation, and ensure our meals are complete and balanced per AAFCO guidelines.

Because our food is raw, high in meat and made with whole animal (including organs and bone), we don't need to add synthetic vitamins to make up for what has been cooked off (or was never there to begin with).

The vitamins and minerals found in our recipes are those that naturally occur in the animal meat, organs, and bones we use in our recipes.

So what do we add? Trace amounts of copper, zinc, iron, and manganese as amino acid complexes, all to make it easy for a pup's stomach to absorb our nutrient-rich meals.

Transitioning tips: from kibble to Little Hunter

For thousands of years, dogs have been eating raw to meet their nutritional needs. However, many pet owners are just now beginning to understand the many health benefits associated with raw diets.

Ready to make the healthy switch? We've got a few tips to make that transition seamless!
Go slowly

There are two main reasons to transition your dog slowly.

  1. Gastrointestinal reasons. A dog’s system can be sensitive to diet changes, and not all dogs transition at the same rate – some may require a longer transition period, especially those with a sensitive stomach.
  2. Flavor and palate. While most dogs immediately take to the savory flavors of an animal-based raw diet (it’s their natural preference), others may be resistant. Why? They've developed a sweet tooth from all the added flavorings, sugar, and additives used in kibble to make it sweet and enticing (think steak vs Cocoa Puffs).

To address these issues, it’s important to transition your dog to raw food slowly, over a 10-14 day period. Start with a mixture of 75% old food and 25% raw food. Then, increase the amount of raw food by 25% every few days as you see how your dog takes to it. If your pup is picking around the food or has runny-looking stools/an upset tummy, they may need a few more days to get used to it. Just hold the mix steady for an extra day or two.

Once your pup has adapted to the old food/raw food mixture, you can continue gradually increasing the amount of raw food until you reach 100%.

From kibble to Little Hunter freeze-dried raw

As an alternative to traditional raw diets, Little Hunter offers a convenient freeze-dried formula that contains the same quality ingredients that make up a raw diet.

Freeze-drying keeps all the nutrients intact, ensuring your pup gets maximum health benefits. Furthermore, dogs tend to love the flavor and enjoy freeze-dried raw food more than kibble – even picky eaters!

To transition from kibble to Little Hunter, simply replace a quarter of the kibble with our raw food. After a few days of feeding this way, replace half of the kibble with Little Hunter. Wait a few more days, and then replace all the kibble with Little Hunter.

You can use our tasty freeze-dried formula as a topper on kibble for a nutrition boost! Many new to Little Hunter start this way before fully transitioning to our freeze-dried raw recipes.

Keep an eye out

It's important to keep an eye on your pup's digestion as you introduce any new food. Monitor their stool to ensure it remains solid and healthy, and make sure they are eating the food without hesitation. If you find your pup is having any issues transitioning, we recommend speaking with your vet.

Guide to Switching Your Dog to a Raw Diet

What if my dog doesn't like it?

Finding the best dog food for your little hunter takes research, patience, and money. Here at Little Hunter, we don't believe pup parents should be punished for trying something new, all in the quest to provide their pooch with nothing but the best.

That's why we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so you can try raw risk-free! Pup doesn't love us? Get a full refund, with no returns necessary. Feel free to donate any unused product to your local dog shelter or a furry four-legged friend who wants to give freeze-dried raw a try.

What's the texture/size of the food?

Our bites are crunchy, small, whole bits (not soft), and great for dogs of all sizes, even itty bitty fur babies! Have a pup that prefers soft or moist food? Try adding about half a cup of warm water for one cup for Little Hunter. Let it sit for 10 minutes before your pup enjoys!

Ingredients
